The challenge

Most AI assistants assume always-on cloud, vendor lock-in, and data leaving the device. That is a poor fit for privacy-conscious users, sovereign desktops, and anyone who needs help when the network is unreliable — or when the work itself should never leave the machine.

People also do not only want chat. They want an assistant that understands the desktop: how to open applications, configure the system, and support day-to-day work with text or voice — without a remote service leased by the hour.

The fit

Evie is a local-first AI desktop assistant. Inference runs natively on the local PC. She interacts through text chat or voice and speech (Hold to Talk), and she is tightly integrated with the desktop environment — especially ManxOS and KDE Plasma — so help turns into action: open Discover, launch LibreOffice Writer, guide a task, then stay beside you while you do it.

She is crafted for help, support, and learning — a companion on the machine, not a remote chat tab that forgets where you live.

What it does

Craft notes

Evie’s UI is a compact Plasma-friendly window: clear hierarchy, Hold to Talk plus Send, and a visual identity that matches ManxOS’s triskelion night-sky language. The product bet is agency — the assistant does not stop at explanation; it bridges into the apps people use to write letters, install software, and configure their system. That is local-first AI as craft: useful without the cloud, respectful of the machine, and tightly fitted to daily desktop work.
